HBO has picked up its acclaimed comedy series “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver” for three more seasons, the renewal taking the weekly late-night show through to a thirteenth season in 2026.
The series won the last seven Emmy Awards for best variety talk series and received as many Emmys again for writing for a variety series. It will move to the newly created scripted variety series category for the upcoming 75th Emmys.
It is also the winner of two Peabody Awards. Oliver executive produces with Tim Carvell, Liz Stanton, Jon Thoday and James Taylor
Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, says in a statement:
“Over the past decade, John and his exceptional team have combined deep research and intelligence with cutting humor to tackle a broad range of subjects, both widely discussed and unconventional.
With an important election year on the horizon, we look forward to seeing what John has in store for audiences over the next three years.”
Oliver himself says: “We’re very happy to get to keep making this show with our fantastic staff. We will continue trying to stretch the term ‘entertainment’ to the breaking point.”
The series has two more episodes to air for the current season.
