Out promoting “Dream Scenario,” Nicolas Cage says he’s almost finished acting in movies and is considering a switch to prestige television.
Speaking with Vanity Fair, the actor claims he “may have three or four more movies left in me”. He adds that he does “feel I’ve said what I’ve had to say with cinema. I think I took film performance as far as I could”.
As a result, he plans to be “much more severe and stringent in my selection process” when it comes to his remaining projects – saying “I want to say bye on a high note.”
Cage, who is nearly 60, adds his father died at 75 and so is obviously weighing his mortality. The result is he wants to spend more time with his family
After more than 100 films under his belt, he says he’s open to trying other forms of acting such as a television series which he’s never done aside from a pilot he filmed back when he was a teenager.
He cites “Breaking Bad” and Bryan Cranston’s performance in that acclaimed series as something he sees as both the challenge and thrill of episodic acting.
Cage says: “Maybe it’s time to look at the immersive streaming experience. I don’t know. I have to look for the next step and I haven’t found it yet.”
One of those projects could be “Lords of War,” the upcoming sequel to “Lord of War,” which will commence a 40-day shoot in Morocco in March. Cage returns as the world’s most notorious arms dealer.
“Dream Scenario” is currently in cinemas.
