Stay calm, Phil, stay calm. News dropped yesterday that Zach Snyder is writing and directing a remake of Escape from New York. Beathe!

We reported that a remake of Escape to New York was in the works, which we all thought was a bad idea. The icing on the cake is that Snyder is the one who’s working on the remake for StudioCanal and The Picture Company. They are hoping for a theatrical release, but sources are saying it will go straight to streaming.

Snyder, as if you didn’t know, directed movies like 300, Watchmen, Dawn of the Dead, Sucker Punch, Man of Steel, and Army of the Dead. He’s had some hits, but he’s also had some misses. Not just misses, but barely even aiming for the target.

Snyder seems to be a victim of his own success. His remake of Dawn of the Dead was solid, as was 300 and Watchmen. The biggest issue was when he started writing, watch Rebel Moon: Parts 1 and 2, if you want to know why.

The original Escape from New York is a cult classic and one of those lightning-in-a-bottle movies. You had the awesome pairing of John Carpenter and Kurt Russell, and it just worked. It created a perfect anti-hero, in Snake Plisskin, and is generally well-loved.

Escape from New York doesn’t need a remake, in any way, shape or form. As for Snyder, if I had to pick a director to not to make this remake, he would have been in my top 3. Am I wrong?

As someone said, you cannot think that Snake would kill everyone involved with this remake.

Breathe, in through the nose, out of the mouth.
