Gracie Cochrane, who portrays Ginny Weasley in HBO’s upcoming “Harry Potter” TV series, won’t return for that show’s second season.

Deadline reports that the show is currently wrapping production of the first season, entitled “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. No specifics of her exit have been revealed beyond her family revealing the news in a statement which reads:

“Due to unforeseen circumstances Gracie has made the challenging decision to step away from her role as Ginny Weasley in the HBO Harry Potter series after season one. Her time as part of the Harry Potter world has been truly wonderful, and she is deeply grateful to Lucy Bevan and the entire production team for creating such an unforgettable experience. Gracie is very excited about the opportunities her future holds.”

The adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s popular books was officially renewed for a second season earlier this month and is gearing up to start production this Fall. HBO has also issued its owns statement saying:

“We support Gracie Cochrane and her family’s decision not to return for the next season of HBO’s Harry Potter series, and we are grateful for her work on season one of the show. We wish Gracie and her family the best.”

The assorted kids cast in the “Harry Potter” series were selected from tens of thousands of submissions, but Ginny is something of a key role because of her relationship with Harry himself later on in the books.

“Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” will begin airing on the cabler this Christmas and is both written and executive-produced by showrunner Francesca Gardiner.
