Not the powder that makes you extra talkative, or the 1990s action extravaganza that starred Keanu Reeves. Director James Cameron has recently, it seems, discovered the virtues of moving fast.

His latest project is a Billy Eilish concert movie that he shot in just a few days, in 3D, and apparently, this has inspired him to keep the accelerator down on his filmmaking. Years passed between Titanic and Avatar, then again between Avatar and Avatar: The Way Of Water.

Cameron. Damp.

It seems that something might be on the cards with his Battle Angel Alita collaborator, Robert Rodriguez.

Appearing on an in-depth Empire podcast, he said his experience shooting the Eilish project means he might re-team with Rodriguez on whatever this lightning-fast project is:

“Robert Rodriguez and I are talking about doing something that’s so blindingly fast that, you know, we’re just going to do the whole thing in like 17 days. Because I really like the experience on ‘Hit Me Hard and Soft.’ I shot a whole movie in six days. I’m like, what the f— takes four years?”

He may have a gap in his schedule, as the fourth Avatar movie is yet to be greenlit. Part of this may be due to the standard declining box office as sequels roll. This is not an issue on its own, as it is expected in just about any franchise, but Avatar 4 is part of a package with Avatar 5, and they are expensive movies to make.

Rodriguez has Incognito with Michael Peña and Jessica Alba shooting later this year in Austin, TX.
