With its release in U.S. cinemas today, Toho International’s “Godzilla Minus One” has released a final trailer for the acclaimed title with reviews reaching new high scores for a kaiju movie from critics and audiences.
The title was released in Japan on November 3rd and had the biggest IMAX opening ever for a live-action Japanese title in Japan. It marks Toho’s first Godzilla film since 2016’s “Shin Godzilla”.
It’s also Toho’s first self-distributed U.S. theatrical release and has pulled in an impressive $2.1 million in Wednesday and Thursday previews. The film is expected to make up to $10 million domestically for the weekend.
The story unfolds in an already devastated post-war Japan where the kaiju goes on a rampage. Takashi Yamazaki, who handled the visual effects on “Shin Godzilla,” writes and directs this outing.
Ryunosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, Yuki Yamada, Munetaka Aoki, Hidetaka Yoshioka, Sakura Ando and Kuranosuke Sasaki star in the film which comes alongside the currently airing “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” series on the Apple TV+ service.
