Amazon Prime Video has given the green light to “Fourth Wing,” a live-action TV series based on author Rebecca Yarros’ mega-selling Empyrean romantasy novels.

The project has been in development at Amazon since 2023 and now appears to be finally moving forward with Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society company set to produce.

The story centers on Violet Sorrengail, a twenty-year-old woman whose plans for a quiet life are upended when her mother, a military general, orders her to join the brutal Basgiath War College and become one of several hundred candidates vying to become dragon riders – the elites of their kingdom of Navarre.

Moira Walley-Beckett (“Breaking Bad,” “Anne with an E”) was originally set as showrunner until September when “Locke & Key” co-creator Meredith Averill took over.

Averill is executive producing with Jordan, Elizabeth Raposo, Jonah Nolan, Lisa Joy, Athena Wickham, Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark.

There are five books in the series with only three published so far – “Fourth Wing,” “Iron Flame” and “Onyx Storm”. That third book reportedly sold 2.7 million copies within the first week.
