Netflix has announced that its “Money Heist” franchise is set to return with some form of expansion. The franchise began in 2017 with the three-season-long main series, which ultimately produced 41 episodes before wrapping in 2021.

It was followed by “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” in 2022 and “Money Heist: Berlin,” which aired its first season in late 2023 and launches its second season this coming Friday.

Netflix did a major stunt in Seville on Saturday in which a boat, packed with people in the show’s signature red jumpsuits and masks, sailed down the Guadalquivir River while the “Bella Ciao” anthem was played.

That was tied to the world premiere of the second season of “Berlin,” which took place in the city yesterday. Alvaro Morte, who played the Professor in the original series, then announced the franchise’s return.

Netflix has also issued a 50-second announcement teaser, which suggests multiple possible spin-offs are in the works. The translated statement issued with the clip reads as follows:

“Some stories start with the perfect strike. And this one changed everything. From the first heist for cash to the most artful robbery of the century, including the assault that put tons of gold from the Bank of Spain on the line, the universe of ‘Money Heist’ has never stopped growing, evolving, and surprising us.

But if there’s one thing that’s clear, it’s that the revolution NEVER ends. From now on, this is mission control for everything in the ‘Money Heist’ universe. If you want in on the next plan and don’t want to miss a single move from the gang, this is the place to be.”

No one is clear what exactly is coming next, though reports a few weeks back suggested a four-episode miniseries about Colonel Tamayo (Fernando Cayo) is currently in the works.
