Earlier this week, a report indicated that the long-in-development sequel to “Edge of Tomorrow” had picked up steam.

Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt led the darkly comedic 2014 sci-fi war film, which earned $375 million at the global box-office from a $175 million budget. The title became a major home video success and has since been recognised as a cult hit.

The last real official update we had back on the film was in mid-2024 with director Doug Liman saying he’s been “spending time trying to crack” the story, but that Warner Bros. Pictures was keen and had been constantly bringing it up and asking about it.

It all seemed to go on hold when the Liman-directed Cruise-led undersea film “Deeper” took precedence for a while, before that film stalled in pre-production.

This week, scooper DanielRPK indicated that the Warners were moving forward on “Edge of Tomorrow 2” and a shooting window as early as this Fall was being considered.

Now, that’s been shot down with Collider reporting that the sequel is not currently in active development and has no production timeline at present.

They add the studio “still hopes to make the movie in the future” and that it’s not ‘officially dead’, but it is a long way from being alive and active – let alone filming soon.
