Universal Pictures and “Top Gun: Maverick” director Joseph Kosinski’s “Miami Vice” feature reboot has landed on a new title – “Miami Vice ’85”.

Additionally, Oscar winner Michael B. Jordan and Oscar nominee Austin Butler are set to play Ricardo ‘Rico’ Tubbs and James ‘Sonny’ Crockett, respectively, in the film. Both were reported as being in talks last year.

Dan Gilroy penned the script, re-writing an earlier draft from Eric Warren Singer. The story will explore the glamour and corruption of mid-1980s Miami as it follows the two detectives who worked undercover.

The project is said to be inspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark television series, which Michael Mann produced and was hugely influential on the TV and cultural landscape.

Dylan Clark and Kosinski serve as producers on the film, which will arrive 21 years after the previous reboot starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx, launched in 2006.

Shooting on the film starts later this year, ahead of a planned release in cinemas and on IMAX screens on August 6th 2027.
