Warner Bros. Pictures just unveiled the first poster for “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum,” a one-sheet that also announces the film’s main cast.
Andy Serkis returns as both Gollum and his pre-transformation version Sméagol. Ian McKellen reprises his much-celebrated performance as the Wizard, Gandalf the Grey.
Also back are Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins from the original trilogy, and Lee Pace as the Elvenking Thranduil from “The Hobbit” trilogy.
The big new announcement is that Jamie Dornan (“The Fall,” “Fifty Shades of Grey”) has been cast in the role of Strider while Leo Woodall (“Nuremberg,” “The White Lotus”) has landed the role of Halvard.
Strider is an alias used by Aragorn when we first meet him in “The Lord of the Rings” and Dornan, now 43 years old, is around the same age as Viggo Mortensen was (42) when he shot the original trilogy.
The poster also confirms Kate Winslet will appear in the role of Marigol, the matriarch of a settlement of Stoors.
“The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum” is about to begin filming and will open in cinemas on December 17th 2027.
