By In the wake of the 4K Ultra HD disc version of “Oppenheimer” being sold out everywhere after just a few days, Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they are “working to replenish” stock of the film.
The gargantuan-grossing biographical drama arrived on disc last week, championed by Nolan who has long praised the theatrical experience and physical media and been a notable skeptic of streaming services.
That led to major retailers like Best Buy and Amazon being out of stock on the 4K discs not just in stores but online as well. That resulted in a frenzy of after-market sales with online re-sellers reportedly charging double or triple the price.
In a statement provided to Deadline, the distributor says:
“We are happy so many consumers are embracing Oppenheimer in 4K Ultra HD and understand that some retailers may currently be out of stock. Universal is working to replenish those retailers quickly so fans can watch the film at home in the best picture quality possible.”
Nolan, among many others, has been vocal that cinephiles should maintain a physical library of their favorite films rather than relying on streaming. The past year or so of titles being pulled from SVOD platforms has only reinforced that belief.
