A bleak future, a desperate mission, and a fragile hope for humanity collide in The Run, a gritty indie survival thriller from filmmaker Stephen de Villiers.

Set in a near-future dystopia, The Run imagines a world ravaged by plague and a catastrophic fertility crisis that has pushed humanity to the brink. Society has collapsed, anarchy rules, and survival is the only currency that matters. At the center of the story is Mac, a smuggler forced to carry out dangerous delivery runs for a mysterious and unseen employer.

Everything changes when he crosses paths with Aliah – believed to be the last mother in Australia – who is on the run with her newborn child. As ruthless criminals close in, the two form an uneasy alliance, navigating a brutal landscape where trust is scarce and danger is constant.

With its haunting premise and relentless tension, The Run delivers a stark vision of survival, sacrifice, and the last flicker of hope in a dying world.

Following its debut at the Adelaide Film Festival in 2025, the film is now gearing up for its theatrical release in New Zealand on May 14, 2026, via Rialto Distribution.
