Antoine Fuqua’s “Michael” has appeared on the earliest tracking forecasts ahead of its late April debut, and the numbers are huge.
Box-Office Pro reports that the film is “absolutely killing it” in ticket pre-sales and the movie’s internal tracking figures indicate the film is on course for a domestic opening weekend in the $80-90 million range.
That is only the United States as well. Jackson was a very popular artist internationally, so the worldwide box-office numbers for the film are expected to be considerable.
The film follows Michael Jackson’s life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his extraordinary talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world.
It highlights both his life off-stage and some of the most iconic performances from his early solo career and adds that ‘this is where his story begins’.
Michael Jackson’s real-life nephew Jafaar Jackson is playing Michael in the film, which also stars Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, Laura Harrier, Kat Graham, Larenz Tate, and Derek Luke.
John Logan penned the script for “Michael” which opens in cinemas on April 24th.
