Currently topping the box office with Project Hail Mary, Ryan Gosling is having quite the week, as now some comments he made have surfaced that show the kind of clear headed honesty that seems lacking in Hollywood these days.
Gosling made a surprise appearance at a New York movie theatre on the opening night of Project Hail Mary. Now, the comments he made there are circulating on social media.
From “Fanboy Tears” to “Toxic Fans”, the industry seems obsessed with blaming everyone else for its failures, and Gosling has broken ranks and is having none of it.
Cinema is struggling, and it is not up to the fans to save it, but to the studios to bring audiences back.
Speaking to the audience before the movie, Gosling said:
“Six years ago, I got the manuscript. [It’s] the most ambitious thing I’ll ever make; it seemed impossible. It was too good not to give it a shot. Six years later, we did it. Here we are, we’re all back in theatres.
It’s not your job to keep them open, it’s our job to make things that make it worth you coming out. You’re about to go to another galaxy, make an alien best friend and save the stars. This movie is for you. Enjoy the trip!”
Project Hail Mary is drawing crowds and it is not a sequel, a franchise, part of a cinematic universe. It appears to be simply a good story, told well.
Welcome to the revolution, Hollywood.
