You know, if you are the type of person who subscribes to certain conspiracy theories about gray aliens already being among us, or reptilians hiding in plain sight as they slowly take over our planet, then the current slew of actresses with their eyes just a little bit too far apart to be natural is something to think about.
Anyway, apropos of nothing, Anya Taylor-Joy is rumored to be in the running for a role in the new Fantastic Four movie.
“Scooper” Daniel Richman broke the news about Pedro Pascal being favorite for Reed Richards has thrown another name in the ring for the production, The Menu and The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy.
His report says it is for an undisclosed villain role in the film. The noise out there in internet land is that Javier Bardem is wanted for Galactacus, and that Marvel Studios may gender-swap the Silver Surfer for the movie. Could Taylor-Joy be the silver herald?
Galactacus has female heralds in the comics, so this could be a possibility. Taylor-Joy has a gap in her schedule after starring opposite Chris Hemsworth in George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa.
One thing to bear in mind is that Marvel has tended to not really be in the business of hiring established stars in the lead roles, but making them instead. Chris Hemsworth was an Aussie soap actor whose biggest role was a cameo as Kirk’s father in Star Trek before Thor. Robert Downey Jr. had fallen way down the Hollywood order, and Favreau had to convince the studio to hire him. Chris Evans’s career had stalled after Fantastic Four. They then surround them with supporting actors and villains of a certain caliber.
If these actors cost big money to secure, they will cost astronomical amounts to tie into the kind of seven-picture deals, including cameos, that Marvel liked to use during the earlier phases. If the goal at Disney is to bring those, frankly ludicrous, production budgets under control then this entire strategy hinted at by scoopers tends to run counter to that. Just food for thought.
WandaVision and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters producer Matt Shakman is directing Fantastic Four, and it will shoot next spring in London for a May 2025 release.
