Maxwell Jenkins (“Lost in Space”) will play Fred, Abby Ryder Fortson (“Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret”) will play Velma and Tanner Hagen (“Xander”) will play Shaggy alongside McKenna Grace’s Daphne in Netflix’s live-action “Scooby-Doo” series.
The core cast was announced today by the streamer. The eight-episode series explores how the Mystery Inc. gang first met each other.
The ‘modern reimagining’ is set during a final summer at camp. Old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder.
Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.
The series was created by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg (“From,” “Citadel”) along with executive producer Greg Berlanti. Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, Andre Nemec and Jeff Pinkner also executive produce for Warner Bros. Television.
The series is said to be trying to capture that “Stranger Things” tone and is reportedly looking to begin filming next month in Atlanta ahead of a 2027 release.
