Two years ago, former Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy appeared at Star Wars Celebration in London and announced three new “Star Wars” films were in the works.

One would be Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s previously announced “New Jedi Order” film with Daisy Ridley’s Rey, one would be Dave Filoni’s film to bring together the various Mando-verse shows, and one would be James Mangold’s “Dawn of the Jedi” set 25,000 years in the past.

Nearly two years on, none of them seems to have made much in the way of progress, even as two films – “The Mandalorian and Grogu” and “Star Wars: Starfighter” – did make it into production and have release dates locked.

Filoni’s film has been parked as he turned his efforts to a second season of “Ahsoka” and, more recently, his new position at Lucasfilm. Obaid-Chinoy’s film has undergone multiple re-writes though at last report was still in active development.

The big question lingered over Mangold’s film until earlier this year when Kennedy revealed Mangold and co-writer Beau Willimon had generated an “incredible script” that was “definitely breaking the mold”. However, she also admitted it was “really on the back burner” and that “anything’s a possibility if somebody’s willing to take a risk”.

Now, speaking on The Hot Mic, scooper Jeff Sneider has revealed that his sources tell him the movie is “dead.” He added, “I can’t say that conclusively, but it doesn’t sound good. I think Mangold is focused on that Timothée Chalamet heist movie is what I think. I think Swamp Thing could be after that.”

It follows on from talk on social media earlier this week that suggested Filoni was considering scuttling the project.

Further updates on the fate of “Star Wars” projects will likely come soon when press rounds begin for “The Mandalorian and Grogu” opening in May.
