Mike Flanagan is enlisting some familiar faces to fill out supporting roles in his upcoming new take on “The Exorcist,” which is about to begin production.

Frequent Flanagan collaborators like Carla Gugino, Rahul Kohli, Hamish Linklater, Carl Lumbly, Samantha Sloyan, Kate Siegel, John Gallagher Jr., Robert Longstreet, Gil Bellows, Matt Biedel and Benjamin Pajak have all reportedly signed on board the film.

Many of these will be familar faces to those who’ve long followed Flanagan’s work, the actors starring in his productions like “The Haunting of Hill House,” “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” “Midnight Mass,” “Gerald’s Game,” “Doctor Sleep,” “The Midnight Club,” and “The Fall of the House of Usher”.

They join Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, John Leguizamo, Sasha Calle, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane who have the lead roles in the project which is set in the same ‘universe’ as “The Exorcist” films but won’t be a sequel or remake.

Plot and character specifics regarding the film are under wraps short of Johansson playing a mother and Jupe is her son. It is also described as a ‘fresh and bold’ new take with no link to the 2023 bomb “The Exorcist: Believer”.

Flanagan wrote the script and is directing and producing the film, which is set up at Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Morgan Creek Entertainment.

Universal Pictures will release the title theatrically on March 12th 2027.
