By Whilst reviews for the recent “Ahsoka” series have varied, one element that was widely praised was that of the late Ray Stevenson’s character of Baylan Skoll.
Skoll was a Force-sensitive human male mercenary and a former Jedi General in the Grand Army of the Republic. Initially a villain, Stevenson offered a take with more gravitas and thoughtfulness than the average “Star Wars” bad guy.
By the end of the series, he set off on his own journey on the planet Peridea – having found giant Mortis statues and seeking the truth about the Force which is deeply tied to the planet itself.
With Stevenson’s passing, it seemed unclear when and/or even if the character would ever return. Speaking with Vanity Fair, showrunner and new Lucasfilm CCO Dave Filoni says he plans to explore Baylan’s story further if he can:
“Obviously, there’s a story there. We’re in a wait-and-see pattern at this point. But I’m glad the conversation is about Ray and how great he was…. I used to have mini debates with him and say, ‘Ray, you’re the villain here.’ And he’d be like, ‘I don’t think so.’ I was like, ‘I know you don’t think so, but you are. I love that you’re playing it like you’re not.’ Which is exactly the way Baylan thinks.”
“Ahsoka” ended with multiple characters still stranded in another galaxy, including Baylan – though with him it was one very much of his own choice.
Should a second season of “Ahsoka” be ordered, it would make sense for Baylan to appear, but an official decision on whether another season should go forward still hasn’t been made as yet.
