To kids of a certain age, Mortal Kombat was the most bloody, violent video game ever. There have been a few attempts at a movie; the last one got a sequel and a sequel.
We had the first trailer a little while ago, but this second one, I don’t know, it looks like fun. It’s over the top, mildly tongue-in-cheek, and the effects look great. Here’s to seeing spines ripped out and frozen bodies being smashed into a million pieces.
Mortal Kombat II stars Karl Urban, Ludi Lin, Jessica McNemee, Joe Taslim, Hiroyuki Sanada, Adeline Rudolph, Tati Gabrielle, Josh Lawson, and Martyn Ford. Simon McQuoid is back in the director’s chair. The story is:
The fan favourite champions — now joined by Johnny Cage himself — are pitted against one another in the ultimate battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders.
Mortal Kombat II seems to focus on Urban’s character, Johnny Cage. He’s going to be a ‘fish out of water’, but finds the courage to face his challenge. He will face off against deadly opponents for the fate of the world.
The tournament in MK has used the tournament as the cornerstone of the games and movie; if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, I guess. The first movie from 2021, which focused on a new fighter, Cole Young, played by Lewis Tan. I’ll admit, I’m getting this information from a couple of sources, as I can’t remember. I might need to watch it again. I remember it being fun.
Mortal Kombat II will be released on the 8th of May. Everybody shout: MORTAL KOMBAT and then do the do do do do do do do…
