After all the rumors about Bradley Cooper and Austin Butler, it seems Leonardo DiCaprio’s co-star for Heat 2 will be Christian Bale.

According to entertainment journalist Jake Hamilton, Bale has signed on. He claimed Bale told him he will be teaming back up with Public Enemies director Michael Mann, and that he will be heading to Chicago to shoot.

Stephen Graham also remains in the mix for a role.

This sequel is to be based on the 2022 novel, serves as both a prequel and a sequel.

Set largely in 1988, McCauley (De Niro in the original), Hanna (Pacino) and Shiherlis (Kilmer) all appear. Some of it is set in the triple frontier zone of South America, some is in South East Asia.

How the adaptation will bridge time periods is not yet known. We do know that the movie will be at least partly shot in Chicago rather than Los Angeles as the tax credit programme wins out. Los Angeles will be shot for pick-up and establishing scenes.

The film is tipped to be budgeted for at least $150 million. Production schedules hint at a 77-day shoot.
