The Funko Collectibles brand, creator of those Pop Vinyl figurines, has struck a deal with production companies Rideback and Spuree to develop film, TV and animated content.
The two companies will serve as Funko’s content partners for original Funko-driven projects across animation, hybrid, live-action, scripted and unscripted formats.
Funko’s brands – namely Funko, Loungefly and Mondo – all collaborate with existing IP from Disney, NBCUniversal, Warner Bros. Discovery, Netflix and more.
The deal aims to “unlock new storytelling opportunities rooted in Funko’s globally recognised brands and deep fan engagement, while building scalable franchises that can live across screens, platforms, and other consumer touchpoints.”
Rideback produces “The LEGO Movie” franchise and Netflix’s live-action “Avatar: The Last Airbender”. Spuree is currently working on an animated “Magic Tree House” series.
A Funko movie has long been in development, but hasn’t moved out of that phase for years. Specific projects under this deal will be announced in the near future.
