Guess who’s back? Back again? It’s been over 20 years since Mel Gibson told the story of The Passion of Christ back in 2004. The movie was not the story of Jesus, but of a man called Brian, whom many believed to be the saviour of mankind and a very naughty boy.

Hang on, I might have looked up the wrong movie. The Passion of Christ was about the final few hours of Jesus, from the last supper to the final moments of his death. As Easter tells us, Jesus didn’t stay dead, but was raised from the grave three days later and continued preaching and doing good deeds.

Gibson has talked about a sequel for a long time; it now turns out the movie is in full production. There are set photos online, but they aren’t giving away much.

The Resurrection of Christ will come in two parts. Part One releases in March 2027—on Good Friday. Part Two releases in May 2027—on Ascension Day.

In Gibson’s original Passion of the Christ, Jim Caviezel played Jesus, but he will not be returning for the sequel. So, after Jesus’ resurrection, he will be played by someone else. Is that the version in the Bible?

In The Resurrection of Christ, Jaakko Ohtonen will be playing Jesus. He is best known for his roles in Vikings: Valhalla and The Last Kingdom.

Gibson has previously described these sequels as ‘an acid trip’, adding he’s ‘never read anything like it’. So, not the Bible then?

These sequels will be filmed in English, with the original movie being shot in Aramaic, Hebrew and Latin, which were all popular at the time of Jesus.
