This November will see Toho and GKIDS debut “Godzilla Minus Zero,” the follow-up to the critically acclaimed and Oscar-winning 2024 feature “Godzilla Minus One,” which was widely lauded.
Made for just $15 million, it grossed $113 million worldwide and quickly led to filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki returning for a follow-up.
Now, an unconfirmed production synopsis for the sequel has popped up online from Dread Central and indicates lead actors Minami Hamabe and Sae Nagatani will both return.
It also claims a second kaiju will make its presence known in the story, as well as a scarier take on the big lizard himself.
The synopsis is NOT from either Toho or trade papers, so it is not confirmed at this time – merely a rumor. Here is what the story, which was said to be found in a production listing, says:
“Following the devastation of Godzilla’s first rampage in ‘Godzilla Minus One,’ Kōichi Shikishima is determined to lead a quiet life, rebuilding his family with Noriko (Minami Hamabe) and young Akiko (Sae Nagatani) while stepping away from the nightmares of war and monsters.
However, peace is short-lived when Godzilla returns, fully regenerated, larger and more ferocious, while something ancient begins to stir beneath Aokigahara near Mount Fuji, endangering the fragile nation and forcing Kōichi to reconsider his promise.
With stakes higher than ever, Kōichi reluctantly returns to the fight, teaming up with old comrades, and U.S.-Japan alliance forces to confront the two kaiju and protect those he loves, especially as Noriko’s cell connection to Godzilla strengthens, pulling her dangerously closer to the monster’s rage.”
Godzilla is getting a lot of love in the near future with the second season of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” hitting at the end of the month, this film in November, and the Monster-verse film “Godzilla x Kong: Supernova” in March 2027.
