Film producer Jerry Bruckheimer says things are still progressing on the next “Top Gun” and “Pirates of the Caribbean” films.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, he was asked which film would likely come first to which he said: “I think it’s a horse race between the two of them, so we’ll see. Right now, Top Gun is a hair ahead, but that’s it. We’re expecting a script shortly [for Top Gun 3].”
He also confirmed “that he’s met with Margot Robbie about the next Pirates film”. Robbie was originally meant to lead a “Pirates of the Caribbean” spin-off but that didn’t come together
The comments come after both films have seemingly been in development for some time. In May last year, came word that Christopher McQuarrie had come on board to pen the next “Top Gun” film, but there’s been no update since.
Less than two weeks ago came the news that Oscar nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns (“1917”) is reportedly in talks with Walt Disney Studios to write the screenplay for the sixth “Pirates”.
That franchise has now become a priority for newly appointed Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro. The rumor is that the film may follow Jack Sparrow’s son while Robbie will play the female lead character.
