The indie action film Bloodstorm throws viewers into chaos during a routine prisoner transfer gone wrong.
The film centers on Bennett, a morally ambiguous assassin played by David Kurzhal, who is being transported by boat to a remote prison island. At the helm is a young, inexperienced desk officer, portrayed by Krista Hedins, whose by-the-book approach is tested the moment they arrive to find the facility overrun, guards slaughtered, and inmates roaming free.
With escape impossible and violence closing in from all sides, the unlikely pair are forced into an uneasy alliance. Bennett may be a killer, but he operates by his own code. Seeing the officer completely outmatched, he becomes her reluctant protector, striking a deal that trades survival for a possible path to freedom. What follows is a stripped-down fight for survival through the island’s wilderness and collapsing order.
David Kurzhal, known to genre fans as the “Viking Samurai” and recently seen in The Last Kumite, brings a physical, grounded presence to the role.
Director Rene Perez, working from a script he co-wrote with Barry Massoni, leans into his familiar strengths: lean storytelling, practical hand-to-hand combat, and sunlit outdoor cinematography. The forested setting gives the action space to breathe while keeping the scale tight and focused.
The cast also includes Silvio Simac, Richard Tyson, and Michael Pare. Bloodstorm is currently available on VOD and arrives on DVD on July 22, 2025.
