Joe and Anthony Russo have offered some brief new comments about the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” films in a new interview with Empire (via Cosmic Marvel.
First up, they say the new films aim to narratively be even more complicated than their prior work on “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame”:
“As much as we run at the fun of what these films can be, we also run at the complexity and the difficulty of what these movies can do at a narrative level. I think we’ve found a new level of that in Doomsday… Victor von Doom demands a certain tone.”
After keeping him under wraps officially, Marvel acknowledged the return of Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers/Captain America in the first teaser trailer back in December. Now, Anthony Russo confirms the character has a ‘central role’ in the new film:
“We have a special affinity with the character, we can’t see this narrative without his central role in it, basically. The special place he holds among the ensemble, he sort of retains that moving forward.”
The comments come as rumours have swirled around both this film and “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” from talk of a major-scale Magneto/Doctor Doom fight in the former to Tom Holland’s Spidey taking on up to nine villains in the latter.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” opens July 31st, while “Avengers: Doomsday” is dated for December 18th.
