Oscar nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns (“1917”) is reportedly in talks with Walt Disney Studios to write the screenplay for the sixth film in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.

The Insneider broke the story, saying newly appointed CEO Josh D’Amaro and president Dana Walden are prioritizing the revival of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise.

Sneider indicates the film, which is expected to be at least a partial reboot, could potentially revolve around Jack Sparrow’s son and a female lead character with the latter expected to be played by Margot Robbie.

Robbie was originally meant to lead a “Pirates of the Caribbean” spin-off but that didn’t come together and its fate is currently in limbo.

Disney is also said to be aiming to “create an original, iconic character, one envisioned as a punk-rock cross between Jack Sparrow and Emma Stone’s Cruella de Vil” for this.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed last year they were still working on the script with original franchise writer Ted Elliot, while Johnny Depp could potentially return in a supporting role. It’s unclear how much of that is still in place under the new Disney executive regime.
