Apple TV has premiered the first photos from “Cape Fear,” its new ten-episode psychological horror thriller series that hails from executive producers Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.

The streamer has also officially announced a June 5th premiere date for the series which will debut with two episodes followed by weekly drops through to July 31st.

The new take is based on the novel “The Executioners”, which was the source material for the 1962 film with Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum, but is also heavily inspired by the 1991 adaptation directed by Scorsese and produced by Spielberg, which starred Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange and Juliette Lewis.

In the series, a story is coming for happily married attorneys Anna (Amy Adams) and Tom Bowden (Patrick Wilson) when Max Cady (Javier Bardem), the notorious killer they are responsible for putting behind bars, is let out of prison – and he wants vengeance.

CCH Pounder, Joe Anders, Lily Collias, Jamie Hector, Malia Pyles and Anna Baryshnikov round out the ensemble cast.

Nick Antosca (“A Friend of the Family,” “The Act”) is writing and will showrun the series. Alex Hedlund, Darryl Frank, Justin Falvey and Morten Tyldum also executive produce with Tyldum helming the pilot.
