Disney launched its “Wonder Man” series this past week, the title riding high on very good reviews from both critics and audiences – not bad for a show that was almost a potential write-off for the studio at one point.

There did seem to be a lack of pre-release confidence regarding the series with its binge release format, its relatively low key promotion, and the overall tone of the work which avoids MCU tropes as much as possible in favour of a meta satire of Hollywood.

Now though, the show’s success is happening in the thing streaming services care the most about – the metrics. FlixPatrol reports that the series is the most-watched TV show on Disney+ right now globally, ahead of Ryan Murphy’s “The Beauty” in second and far ahead of “Tell Me Lies” in third.

The title reportedly topped the charts in 69 different territories with a viewership score of 773 – the fifth highest of any series currently airing behind only “Hijack” (975), “Bridgerton” (913), “Shrinking” (887) and “Tehran” (817). Emmy winner “The Pitt” for example is at 633.

That audience satisfaction score is likely, in part, due to its accessibility and tone which is essentially a bromantic buddy comedy with chemistry between leads Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley as well as requiring very little MCU knowledge – especially of recent storylines.

The few negative takes seem to veer towards those expecting more typical superhero fare and not getting it, which is to be expected. Third party data on the series is expected in a few weeks.
