One of the year’s most anticipated crime dramas has arrived with the first trailer for Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole, offering a dark and intense look at the iconic Nordic noir character. This marks the first screen adaptation of Nesbo’s famed detective, with Tobias Santelmann stepping into the role of the troubled and brilliant Harry Hole.
Season one adapts Nesbo’s novel The Devil’s Star, which centers on the murder of a young woman found in her Oslo apartment with a tiny red diamond, shaped like a five-pointed star, hidden beneath her eyelid. Reluctantly assigned to the case, Hole is forced out of an alcoholic spiral when evidence points to a serial killer terrorizing the city. Complicating matters further is Tom Waaler, Hole’s longtime rival and a man operating on the wrong side of the law.
The series frames itself as a character-driven crime drama, tracking two police officers locked in a dangerous moral conflict. The trailer teases interrogation rooms, shadowy streets, and an escalating sense of urgency as Harry races against time.
Netflix has assembled a strong Norwegian ensemble, with Joel Kinnaman as Waaler alongside Pia Tjelta, Peter Stormare, Anders Baasmo, and Eili Harboe. Nesbo serves as creator and writer, keeping the adaptation true to his novels.
Watch the first episode on March 26, 2026.
