Filmmaker Sam Raimi has firmly shut down any talk of him and Tobey Maguire reuniting for a fourth “Spider-Man” film that would follow up his original trilogy at Sony Pictures.

Raimi is currently out doing early press for his darkly comedic survival thriller “Send Help,” which is getting rave early reactions so far.

In the wake of Tobey Maguire’s return to the role in 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and Raimi directing Marvel’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” the following year, speculation has swirled that Raimi’s abandoned plans for a fourth film in his original series could be resurrected.

Raimi has now said it ain’t happening. Speaking with Screen Rant, Raimi spoke about his continued love for the franchise and “the producers that make it” along with Marvel being “better than ever” following his time working on the “Doctor Strange” sequel.

However, he says Tobey’s Peter Parker and Kirsten’s Mary Jane “have gone elsewhere” and he’s not sure they would fit in with the stories they’re telling now.

He then says Marvel is “really into his [Tom Holland’s Peter Parker] story”, which they’re telling now, and it would not “be right for me to go back and try and resurrect my version of this story”.

Instead, he’s “had to pass the torch happily” and is “honoured to have had it at one time and contributed to the legacy. Raimi’s abandoned “Spider-Man 4” project was rumored tohave featured Vulture and Mysterio as the main villains.

The comments come as Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of the upcoming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” tells Comicbook.com that everyone involved in the making of the new film wanted to do “something that felt different”:

“It’s still the Spider-Man that everybody loves, but this is a new chapter in his life, and that tonal shift was something that was really exciting to me. It felt really different, and it was an extremely gratifying experience.”

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is essentially a fresh start for the character following the events of ‘No Way Home’ and is set to hit cinemas July 31st.
