By DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn is busy getting his “Superman: Legacy” ready to take flight early in the new year when shooting is expected to begin.
Well into the pre-production phase, Gunn has taken to social media today to share a new look at his production office for the film with his wall plastered with panels and cover art from writer Jeph Loeb and artist Tim Sale’s acclaimed 1998 comic “Superman for All Seasons”.
The shots mostly depict Superman in flight along with a transformation sequence. The artwork serving obviously as inspiration for the project and the comic having previously served as inspiration for TV’s “Smallville” series.
A few months ago Gunn received an Absolute Edition of “Superman for All Seasons” and said at the time it was “one of my favorite Superman stories [and] a huge influence on Legacy ([and] a strangely perfect bookend with All-Star Superman”.
Gunn’s film isn’t expected to be a direct adaptation of a specific Superman comic, rather taking inspiration from the whole line, but the artwork included here suggests he’s trying for a classic aesthetic for the character.
“Superman: Legacy” remains on track to begin filming at Leavesden Studios in London in early Spring. The cast includes David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane along with Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Maria Gabriela de Faria as The Engineer, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho.
“Superman: Legacy” is slated to open in cinemas on July 11th 2025.
