Out promoting her role in “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songs and Snakes,” actress Rachel Zegler has spoken some more about one of her upcoming roles – that of Snow White.
Originally slated for March next year but recently pushed back a full year to 2025, the movie also stars Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen alongside Andrew Burnap, Ansu Kabia, Colin Michael Carmichael, and Martin Klebba.
It marks Disney’s live-action take on the classic 1937 film which is considered the studio’s first major successful animated feature and kicked off their line-up of fairytale animated films.
Collider recently spoke with Zegler about her role and she says one way her iconic character will be updated for modern times is that she will harness the “leader within her” and both she and director Marc Webb were eye-to-eye on the character:
“Something that kind of emerged was this leader within her that I was so happy that the writers wanted her to be, and the fact that it’s born out of her upbringing, but she finds it within herself throughout the course of the film and throughout the people that love her in the film and show their love for her. Marc Webb and I kind of called it her third eye opening.
There’s a couple of scenes in there where she’s speaking like someone who’s been alive for much longer than she has, and that’s something that I relate to, something that I’ve been told all my life. So, getting to bring that to a character that I love so deeply and that I’ve spent so much time with now, it’s a really amazing thing as an actor and as a performer, and I can’t wait for people to get to see it.”
Webb directs from a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson. “La La Land” and “The Greatest Showman” pair Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are attached to write new songs.
Disney also has live-action “Moana,” “Lilo & Stitch,” “Hercules” and “Bambi” films on the way.
