Following their work together on “Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere,” filmmaker Scott Cooper is re-teaming with 20th Century Studios on a new untitled UFO film.

Cooper writes & directs while Eric Robinson and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein produce the thriller film, which will reportedly deal with the events in Roswell, New Mexico in 1947 when a rancher found debris scattered around his property, and the government “closed ranks as conspiracy theories took flight about a UFO event.”

The incident became the basis for UFO conspiracy theories that an alien spacecraft had crashed at the site, especially as the army reported the debris was from a conventional weather balloon.

In the 1990s, the Air Force revealed that the Roswell event was part of the top-secret Project Mogul, an initiative at nearby Alamogordo Army Air Field that used complex military balloons to detect Soviet nuclear tests.

The project sounds like it’s still in the early phases and not confirmed as his next feature. Cooper is also still considering the Eric Roth-penned “Commanche”.

Cooper’s previous films include “Crazy Heart,” “Black Mass,” “Hostiles,” “Antlers,” “Out of the Furnace” and “The Pale Blue Eye”.
