The term ‘sex kitten’ isn’t used much anymore, but then, you only have to look at Hollywood these days to know what I mean…I’m still not sure what Katy O’Brian is. When you do use the word ‘sex kitten’, you do think of Brigette Bardot.
She has sadly passed away, aged 91, at her home in Saint Tropez, South of France.
Bardot had made a number of movies from 1952 to 1956, before she first rose to fame in her, then husband, Roger Valim, 1956 movie …And God Created Woman. Bardot played a free-spirited 18-year-old whose natural sensuality stirred up passions in a simple fishing village. I want to make a joke about the smell of a fishing village, but this isn’t the time.
The movie sparked controversy and was banned in a number of countries and parts of the US. Her marriage to Vadim broke down during the filming of …And God Created Woman, as Bardot had an affair with her co-star, Jean-Louis Trintignant.
Sadly, during the 1950s, it was reported that she had tried suicide several times. Her last recorded attempt was in 1992.
Animal Rights
In 1973, at the age of 39, she announced her retirement so she could devote her time to animal rights. She launched the Brigitte Bardot Foundation in 1986, which has since saved hundreds of animals. Bardot is quoted as saying:
“I gave my youth and beauty to men, I give my wisdom and experience to animals.”
She was paid tribute by the French President on Twitter.
