Being a CEO doesn’t seem like fun. Sure, the money is fun. Very fun. But I know a few CEO’s. I work, or have worked, with them. They spend huge swathes of time away from their family, and spend lots of time travelling around getting a tough time from investors – who are seemingly never actually happy. Does being a Co-CEO make it any easier? After all, James Gunn has Peter Safran to deal with all that side of things.
James Gunn recently revealed what his day-to-day looks like at DC Studios, and in the process gave an update on several key projects.

The first footage from HBO’s action-drama series Lanterns has screened for the media at HBO Max’s Upfront event São Paulo, Brazil. A report from down there, via Omlete, says the footage showed Hal Jordan taking off. They confirm there was no sign of any costumes and pointed to what they saw feeling like a Western.
Gunn talked about Lanterns, and a few other things, in an update via Threads:
“The majority of days currently are spent prepping Man of Tomorrow – storyboarding & department meetings & scouting & casting, interspersed with going over cuts of Supergirl & Lanterns, discussing marketing on all the projects, reading & making notes on new scripts, supporting The Batman Part II crew to make sure it goes smoothly, waiting for first cut of Clayface (can’t wait!), okaying designs for all kinds of stuff, & I’m sure many things I’m forgetting.”
Supergirl arrives next summer on June 26th 2026, Clayface in September, and Lanterns on HBO Max in the Summer.
Man of Tomorrow and The Batman Part II arrive on July 9th, 2027 and October 1st, 2027.
