No surprises at all. There has been an almost constant flow into my local multiplex this weekend. Girls dressed as Glinda, others painted green. Wicked has destroyed all before it at the box office.

Wicked: For Good has opened to $150 million domestically and $226 million worldwide. This is clear of the $164 million worldwide start of the first instalment.

Along the way, it has also set a record for the biggest domestic and global openings for a movie based on a Broadway show.

It is the second biggest domestic opening for a Universal film, and the second biggest domestic opening for any film in 2025.

Nobody else got a look in at the box office as a result. Last week’s leader Now You See Me: Now You Don’t was second with $9.1 million domestically.

Predator: Badlands was third with $6.25 million, ahead of The Running Man in fourth with $5.8 million.

Fifth place was Rental Family with $3.3 million.

Expect Wicked: For Good to steamroller all before it for the next couple of weeks.

The release schedule for the next few weeks is a grim and barren wasteland.
