By “The Whale” and “Black Swan” filmmaker Darren Aronofsky is set to direct a biopic about tech mogul Elon Musk that’s currently in development at A24.
Puck News broke the story with Variety subsequently confirming it. The film’s script will be based on Walter Isaacson’s authorized biography which was published back in September.
Isaacson’s biography on Apple’s Steve Jobs served as the basis for Danny Boyle’s 2015 film “Steve Jobs” starring Michael Fassbender. A24 reportedly won the title in a heated competition to option Isaacson’s book.
Born in Pretoria in 1971, Musk is a businessman who founded online bank X.com which, when merged with its competitor Confinity, became PayPal. He sold that to eBay and founded SpaceX in 2002 which is behind the Starlink satellite system.
In 2004 he was an early investor in EV manufacturer Tesla and became that company’s chairman, product architect and CEO until 2018 after he was sued by the SEC.
In 2015 he co-founded OpenAI which powers ChatGPT and DALL-E. In 2022 he was known for his controversial decision to purchase Twitter for $44 billion. Changes instituted since he began have resulted in massive backlash.
