I must not have been paying attention, as this seems to have come out of nowhere. Kate Mara and Laurence Fishburne star in The Astronaut. This is a new sci-fi horror from Vertical.
This follows astronaut Sam Walker, who crash-lands back to Earth. They find her punctured capsule off the Atlantic coast, and discover she is still alive inside.
General William Harris places her in quarantine under strict NASA surveillance for rehabilitation and testing, but as a series of disturbing events begin to escalate, she fears that something extraterrestrial has followed her home.
Gabriel Luna, Ivana Milicevic, Macy Gray, and Scarlett Holmes co-star. The Astronaut was written and directed by Jess Varley. Brad Fuller, Eric B. Fleischman, Chris Abernathy, and Cameron Fuller produce.
Principal photography took place in Ireland in late 2023, and post-production ran through 2024. The Astronaut premiered at the 2025 South by Southwest Film & TV Festival on March 7, after which it was acquired by Vertical.
The Astronaut lands in cinemas on October 17th.
