Clayface was not part of the DCU plans until a script landed, and it bowled everyone over. Now the movie is in full production, and the internet is full of images from the set.
While it will be a standalone “body horror”, it has been confirmed as being part of the DCU. James Gunn confirmed as much during his appearance on the Howard Stern show.
Eagle-eyed fans have already spotted several Easter eggs all over the Clayface set that confirm it as part of a larger DC world, specifically a very Batman-centric one. References include The Flying Graysons, the Joker, a “Penguin man” in a freak show, Sionis Industries – from Black Mask, Black Canary, and Zatanna venue the Vesuvius Club.
Tom Rhys Harries leads the film as Matt Hagen/Clayface with Naomi Ackie and Max Minghella in supporting roles. Set photos have also revealed Eddie Marsan is present.
In one set of pictures from the movie set in Stockport, England, Harries can be seen performing in a scene where he leaves the red carpet of a movie premiere in what seems like some distress.
An image was doing the rounds with what looked like the Robert Pattinson Batman symbol on it, but Gunn has dismissed this as an internet fake.
Clayface is set for release in September next year.
