I’m honestly more excited about an indie trailer than I am about any other type of movie. The newest trailer we have to share is called Tape.

Tape is an odd one, as it’s a remake of an American movie into Asian; usually it’s the other way around.

This new version of Tape stars Adam Pak, Selena Lee, Kenny Kwan, Summer Chan, Ho Yeung Fung, and Angus Yeung. Bizhan M Tong directs, and Richard Linklater is an executive producer, as it’s based on one of his earlier movies from 2001.

The original movie, by Linklater, starred Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman, and Robert Sean Leonard. I like Linklater as a director, but this is a new one on me.

Press Release

The remaining information about Tape is from the press release.

Set in modern-day Hong Kong, Tape follows three former high school friends whose seemingly casual reunion takes a dark and unexpected turn. Fifteen years after graduation, Wing – a drifting former romantic – invites his old friend Jon, now a rising filmmaker, to reconnect on the eve of Jon’s big film festival debut. But the atmosphere quickly shifts as secrets from their past resurface. Particularly concerning Amy, the ex-girlfriend they both share a complicated history with.

As tensions mount and long-suppressed memories clash with the need for closure. What begins as a nostalgic evening spirals into a harrowing confrontation that forces all three to face the truth – and the lies – they’ve been living with.

Directed by Bizhan Tong, co-written with original playwright Stephen Belber. The film features gripping performances from Selena Lee (Blood and Water, The Queen of News), Kenny Kwan (Back from the Brink, New Police Story), and Adam Pak (The Prosecutor, A Guilty Conscience). Exploring power, accountability, and the painful echoes of unresolved trauma.

Tape will be in UK cinemas on the 22nd of August. I’ll be honest, I’m not sure I fancy this remake, but Linklater’s original movie is going on the watch list.
