Now and then, we get trailers we can put up on the Last Movie Outpost YouTube Channel, which is pretty cool. The newest is a movie called 40 Acres.

At first, I didn’t rate the images they sent over, but the trailer looks pretty good. I have a screener already, so I will check it out and report back.

40 Acres stars Danielle Deadwyler, Kataem O’Connor, Michael Greyeyes, Milcania Diaz-Rojas, Leenah Robinson, Jaeda LeBlanc, and Elizabeth Saunders. R. T. Thorne is the director, who co-wrote the script with Glenn Taylor and Lora Campbell. The story is:

In a post-apocalyptic world with food scarcity, a Black family of Canadian farmers descended from American Civil War migrants defend their homestead against cannibals trying to seize their resources.

That was the blurb from the IMDb, which sounds much better than the press release:

Hailey Freeman (Deadwyler) and her family are the last descendants of African American farmers who settled in 1875 in rural Canada after the first Civil War. In a famine-decimated future they struggle to make their last stand against those intent on taking their home.

That version sounds a little too political. Watching the trailer, though, just made it look like a good thriller. More from the press release:

40 Acres was directed by R.T. Thorne (Blindspot, The Porter), who brought over 20 years of experience in directing to the production. 40 Acres is his feature debut, with a script he co-wrote with Glenn Taylor, and a story by Thorne and Lora Campbell (#Interns, Yoga 101).

40 Acres will be in selected cinemas in the UK on the 1st of August, and then on stream on the 4th of Aug.
