It was previously rumored, and now a number figure seems to have emerged regarding the cost of making filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s ancient Greek epic “The Odyssey”.
Previous reports suggested the film would be Nolan’s most expensive to date, beating out the net $230 million it cost to make “The Dark Knight Rises” and $205 million spent on “Tenet”.
Now, Puck News is reporting that the film is expected to come in at a budget of $250 million.
The budget is a big jump up on the cost-efficient $100 million spent to make Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” though it’s not hugely surprising as the story by its nature requires exotic locales and visual effects.
There’s also plenty of mythical beings including the one-eyed Cyclops, multi-headed Scylla, whirlpool-generating Charybdis, Greek gods like Poseidon and Athena, and beings like the sorceress Circe and nymph Calypso. How Nolan will portray them is unclear right now.
Tom Holland, Matt Damon, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson and Lupita Nyong’o are all reportedly set to star in this adaptation of Homer’s 8th century BC epic poem which follows Greek hero Odysseus, king of Ithaca, and his journey home after the Trojan War along with the many perils he and his crew encountered.
Previous reports indicate filming will take place in the UK, Morocco and Italy over the first few months of this year. Nolan’s “The Odyssey” will release in U.S. cinemas on July 17th 2026.
