Seventeen of the twenty films that have made the Academy’s Visual Effects Branch film shortlist for the visual effects category at the Oscars have been revealed.

Variety revealed the names, adding that shortlist voting will take place this week. Warner Bros. Pictures and Disney lead the pack with four titles each, followed by Paramount Pictures with three, Universal Pictures and Sony Pictures with two each, and single qualifiers for Netflix and A24.

The trade also confirmed which titles did NOT make the Top 20, titles that include “Nosferatu,” “Blitz,” “Queer,” “If,” “Kraven the Hunter,” “Argylle,” “Venom: The Last Dance,” “Unstoppable,” “Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver” and “Megalopolis”.

The list of those that did make it are as follows:

“Deadpool and Wolverine” (Marvel Studios)

“Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire” (Sony Pictures)
“Gladiator II” (Paramount Pictures)
“Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” (Warner Bros.)
“Here” (Sony Pictures)
“Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” (20th Century Studios)
“Mufasa: The Lion King” (Walt Disney Pictures)
“A Quiet Place: Day One” (Paramount Pictures)
“Spaceman” (Netflix)
“Twisters” (Universal Pictures)
“Wicked” (Universal Pictures)

The Academy did not comment nor confirm the list of finalists. The shortlist of ten finalists, alongside nine other Oscar categories, will be revealed on Tuesday, December 17th.

The Visual Effects Branch will then go on to vote to narrow the field to five nominees for the 97th Academy Awards with those nominees announced in January.
