In the early 2010s, Marvel was killing it on the big screen, but when it came to gaming DC was wiping the floor with them thanks to the “Batman: Arkham” titles.
A decade later, Marvel’s big screen endeavours have been rather up and down in terms of quality and success, but gaming wise they’ve been going much stronger overall – beating DC even with the odd dud (eg. “Marvel’s Avengers”).
Now comes “Marvel Rivals,” the company’s attempt to enter the free-to-play hero shooter arena (ala “Overwatch,” “Fortnite,” “Apex Legends”). Revealed back in March, the title is readying for release next week and Marvel Games and NetEase have now dropped the game’s launch trailer.
The trailer offers a look at some of the key faces making it onto the character roster for fighting including Wolverine, Spider-Man, Black Widow, Squirrel Girl, Cloak & Dagger, Magik and the Lin Lie version of Iron Fist.
The game sees characters from several universes coming together after a clash between Doctor Doom and his 2099 counterpart. Players go head-to-head in 6v6 battles, with the main goal of defeating both Dooms before one sets out to conquer the multiverse.
“Marvel Rivals” hits PC and consoles on Friday, December 6th.
