Legendary filmmaker Michael Mann has offered a brief update on the progress of the sequel to his famed 1995 crime thriller “Heat”.
The film is expected to be an adaptation of the 2022 novel Mann and Meg Gardiner co-wrote which covers events many years before and shortly after those in the 1995 film.
The update comes following news a few weeks back of a recent delay in the film’s production due to financial factors and script re-writes.
Speaking with Collider, Mann says the script is almost finished but even when it is, there’s no certainty that Warner Bros. Pictures will green light the film:
“Nothing’s definitely going [forward] because the sky may fall. But ‘Heat 2’ is at Warner Bros. I’m writing the screenplay for them, and hopefully, we will go forward as soon as possible.”
Mann had reportedly been targeting a late 2024/early 2025 shoot for the film which still hasn’t officially announced any cast – even as actors like Austin Butler, Adam Driver and Ana de Armas have all been suggested for key roles.
