For some time now it seems as if Marvel Studios has been moving towards doing a “Young Avengers” film, even though one has yet to officially be announced.

Then this weekend a report emerged suggesting there’s good reason for this – the project is rumored to have been scrapped in favor of doing the project as a Disney+ series titled “Champions”.

DanielRPK (via CBM) reports that the reason for the rebrand to “Champions” comes that many of the actors who make up the Young Avengers aren’t exactly ‘young’ (in the comics they’re all teens).

It’s also indicated the shift to a TV show is due to “The Marvels” underperforming at the box office last year, and also lowers the risk of an underperforming “Young Avengers” spin-off potentially damaging the “Avengers” brand.

Young Avengers characters introduced in the MCU so far include 27yo Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, 27yo Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang, 22yo Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan, 21yo Joe Locke as Billy Maximoff/Wiccan, and 18yo Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez.

The scooper also indicates “Hawkeye” season 2 is expected to begin shooting next Fall, and “Nova” won’t begin production for at least a year.
