There’s a lot of acclaim for the performances in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two,” but one person who has become a fan favorite is Javier Bardem as Stilgar.

In a film that is otherwise rather dead serious and a bit cold, Bardem portrayed the increasingly devout Fremen leader as someone kind of lovable, often hilarious, and a ultimately bit tragic – requiring a careful balancing act from the actor.

The character returns in the next novel “Dune: Messiah” which we know that Villeneuve will be adapting for the screen, so will the actor reprise his role? You better believe it.

Variety spoke with Bardem recently about the animated movie “Spellbound” and offered his thoughts on the character’s future and isn’t sure where things stand:

“I know that I’m in the book, so I should be in the script. If I’m not, I will be very angry and I will let him (Denis Villeneuve) know. I will go to Canada. I totally love him. I adore him. Whatever he wants, and whatever he decides, it will be fine for me. Absolutely. He’s one of a kind. He’s an extraordinary human being. Such a loving man, fun, funny as hell, and a real worker.”

He also says that his son was disappointed that his character didn’t get to sword fight in the second film and so says in the new interview: “If there is such a thing as Dune: Messiah, please give me just a little sword fighting that I can show it to my kid.”

Filming on “Dune Messiah” is expected to begin in early 2026.
